ChiChi found himself at the shelter when his owner couldn't care for him any longer. He is currently in a foster home and she reports that he is fabulous! The only thing she noticed is that he is reactive to her larger dog (35 pounds). He is completly comfortable around all her other dogs who are under 10 pounds. She also noticed that he may nip if you try to pick up if he isn't ready. So may not be a good idea to be around young children. As with most male chihuahuas, he is a marker at times so we advise belly bands.
ChiChi is heartworm positive, but doesn't have heartworm disease. He will stay on heartworm prevention (same as you would with any dog) until the adult worms die off. This will be provided by CARE for a year (at which point he should be negative at his annual check-up). All basic vetting has been done.
A completed adoption application and home visit are required for approval to adopt a CARE dog. Out of state adoptions okay. All dogs receive a distemper/parvovirus vaccine(s), kennel cough vaccine, rabies vaccine, dewormer, monthly heartworm prevention, flea & tick prevention and treatment if needed, microchip, and are spayed/neutered through CARE.
